I’ve been a Licensee since 2016 and joined LPOG later that year. Throughout my experience of running a two-terminal post office in a small rural community, I’ve realised the value of our collective strength. LPOG is like a shield that represents me, especially when our Licensor, Australia Post, doesn’t always act in my best interests.
Since becoming a board member in 2022, I’ve seen how Australia Post treats Licensees represented by LPOG compared to those without representation. LPOG has been instrumental in every material improvement in my relationship with Australia Post. While non-members have also benefited from these improvements, history has shown that future improvements are less likely without continued pressure from LPOG.
I’ve never been called a freeloader and never intend to be. It’s hard for me to understand how others can enjoy the benefits that LPOG has won for them but refuse to spend less than they spend on cups of coffee to support the organisation that has given them so much. No single Licensee has the time or resources to meet with federal ministers and regulators or to have recurring meetings with Australia Post’s senior leadership team.
“By joining LPOG, we can strengthen our collective voice and ensure our interests are protected and represented.”
As the owner of 3 LPOs in 2010, I was very concerned for our financial viability, which seem absurd considering we were running LPOs for Australia Post. How could you go broke doing that, we asked ourselves?
With no interest for our concerns from our representative body, POOAL, and an equal lack of interest from the corporate members of APLAC, (of which I was a National Licensee Director) we stepped back to consider our options.
In 2012 I wrote a letter to every Licensee in Australia asking if we were the only ones who were concerned about our businesses and our future. The response, within the week of the letters being received across Australia, was overwhelming. And most of the Licensees responding said ‘They thought it was just me!’ The game of divide and conqueror had been very well run.
That was the beginning of LPOG, a Franchisees Association with working Licensees that would fully support each other. So many Licensees, with a massive range of diverse abilities and skills, came together to bring about change, and save our industry. Individually, we would have been like Mr Bates vs the PO, 20 years in the making. And like them, most of us would have also lost everything.
LPOG is the most powerful business tool I have. I know everything I need to know, because I know people, who will know people, who will know what I need to know, to have the best chance of succeeding, or dealing with finding the way through the issues.
We are a united voice, and we are strong and resilient. And we get stuff done. So many of the foundation and past members of LPOG have successfully sold their LPOs, and are enjoying a well-deserved retirement, instead of financial devastation, and their purchasers, are now running successful LPOs, thanks to the collective efforts of more than a thousand past and present members of LPOG, who have done so much to bring about change.
“Joining LPOG is the best decision you can ever make to support and assist you to improve your business.”
Since taking over the Blackbutt LPO in January 2009, we’ve demonstrated resilience and a commitment to service, having relocated the Post Office twice to better serve our community. Initially, we joined POALL, but faced with challenges from Australia Post, POALL told us we would never succeed against Australia Post.
Yet, it was Angela Cramp’s compelling letter that inspired us to attend a pivotal meeting in Sydney, leading to our active involvement in the LPOGroup Association. The LPOGroup has been a beacon of change from the outset, spearheading a Senate Inquiry into the treatment of Licensed Post Offices (LPOs) by Australia Post. Our relentless advocacy has brought significant issues to the forefront, including fair remuneration for LPOs, which is at the heart of our mission. We are not just an association; we are a support system, constantly assisting LPOs in navigating the complexities of the postal industry.
Moreover, our platform serves as a hub for LPOs, offering access to a network of dedicated suppliers committed to our mutual success. At the LPO Group, we’re not just a collective; we’re a force driving positive change and prosperity within the postal industry. Join us, and together, let’s redefine the future of LPOs.
“We’re a force driving positive change and prosperity.”
Fellow Licensees
My name is Mike Booth and together with my wife Rosalie I have been a Licensee of Bundaberg West LPO for 27 years and Toowoomba South LPO for 11 years.
During my time as a Licensee I have witnessed many changes to our LPO business model but now , more than ever , I am witnessing declining foot traffic as many of our services are no longer needed by the general public following digitisation of the economy.
With new products and services not on the horizon I personally think now is the time every LPO in Australia needs to be truly represented by an organisation that is proactive and committed to growing our business .
Accordingly , I have recently become a board member of LPOG in appreciation of the fantastic work LPOG have done over the years, especially with payment reform. We definitely would not have the business model we have now if it wasn’t for LPOG.
As a board member I am now witnessing firsthand the excellent work LPOG does for all Licensees and I encourage all LPOG members to continue supporting this great organisation and I appeal to all non members join LPOG as a matter of priority.
“LPOG is the ‘ Go-To ‘ organisation for Australia Post.”
Pete & I started as Licensees in 2004, at the Uni LPO in Darwin, things ticked along for a few years but then it just seemed to get harder, obviously I went looking to find anyone else with the same issues. Next thing we are at the POOAL ‘thing’ in NZ, thank goodness there was a good bunch of Licensees. As there was no chance we were getting anything from the powers that be…we weren’t even allowed to talk to them! There was only about 10 couples there…anyway, not long later we got the letter from LPOGroup, no brainer for me as it had to be better, anything was better!
Fast forward a few years of APLAC and getting to learn some of the ropes and I have ended up on the Board. I have always been passionate about small business and this fills that need, I will do my dandiest for the benefit of all licensees.
I am too cut and dried or at least I am told I come across that way, so I simply cannot understand why you would want to support ‘the other mob’ or how they still have a show? Although of course it serves AP, as any proposed improvements that LPOG put on the table can be opposed. So it is not only our franchisor we are negotiating with, it is then also any negative contributions that POOAL may serve up.
“Joining LPOGroup was a no brainer for me, it had to be better, anything was better!”
I am the Licensee of Stanhope Gardens LPO in North Western Sydney, a busy six-terminal Post Office serving a diverse and multicultural community.
My background spans revenue, business strategy, and team leadership, including a role as Global VP Sales in the tech industry. This experience has shaped a practical and solutions-focused approach to managing change and driving performance.
Since becoming a Licensee, my focus has been on operational efficiency, team training and development, along with building meaningful connections within the community. I am also a volunteer firefighter with the Rural Fire Service and a Primary Ethics teacher at a local public school, roles that reflect my commitment to the communities we serve.
I joined the LPOG Board because I believe there is a real opportunity to drive sustainable change that strengthens both the LPO network and Australia Post. I look forward to supporting members, sharing practical insights, and helping ensure the network remains strong and well positioned for the future.
“I joined LPOG because real progress comes from a strong collective voice and a clear focus on the future of our network.”
Hi, my wife Rebecca brought the Wycheproof LPO in 2018 deciding on a Tree change from Berwick in Melbourne to the Heart of the Mallee. My family had previously owned and run the Daylesford Post Office. Both leaving successful careers we have found the business to
be very challenging, but the rewards of community engagement offset these challenges.
I’m a future driven person and intend on anything I do leaving a legacy. LPOG seemed a just cause and a great way to make sure we are still around serving communities anywhere in Australia. I think the LPO Network is the pride of our Country’s Retail Shop Front.
We have so much opportunity and at the same time so many issues we need to address. We are a customer driven business and must find new ways of attracting revenue into our business as we will not cost-cut our way to prosperity. I am committed along with the current LPOG board members to help you grow your business, so we continue to serve the next generation of customers.
I ask all LPO’s to support LPOG as we have your back and with resilient determination we will push forward solving the issues and delivering a return on investment for all.
We purchased the Wallaroo LPO in early 2011, joined LPOG as as foundation member, and have been a member ever since.
I rejoined the board of LPOG in 2025 after previously serving from 2017 to 2021.
My views are a little simplistic, if AP properly thought out and budgeted for its ideas there would never be a need for them to use the word mandatory. They don’t and they do.
Licensees are currently in a position where we need expect many major challenges and changes to occur over the next 18 months. I would think that members of LPOG will be the most informed and positioned to make the better choices in what options are heading our way.
I am usually your first point of contact. I handle all admin and membership for LPOG. I have worked in Post offices for 14 years and started with LPOG in the first year the group was formed.
I also arrange the AGM weekends, down to the tiniest detail which are always a hit, and since more and more members and non-members are coming along they are clearly enjoying it and getting value out of being able to meet and chat.
